MoonGoat Coffee is privileged to present to you Ngaratua (Gar-uh-too-ah), a farm run by second-generation makers, Peterson and Purity Muthathai. Paul Muthathai Ngarutua started growing coffee in this picturesque Embu estate when Kenyan laws changed in 1958 to allow for native Kenyans to plant coffee trees, the Ngaratua Estate began its multi-generational development into a thriving coffee estate. Today, Ngaratua Estate boasts more than 7000 SL28 coffee trees, along with its own washing station for fully vertical quality control.
We like to call the Gar-uh-too-ah a true breakfast coffee. It has the sweetness of granola with the dried fruitiness of raisins, which inspires its flavor call of raisin bran crunch. Pair that with its grapefruit acidity to bring to mind visions of the classic, well-balanced breakfast.
The estate dry ferments, then wash in a channel, dries raised, soaks, and dries again in a typical Kenyan fashion with less than 24 hours in each fermentation active stage.
